NEWCASTLE United chairman Chris Mort is expected to stand down from his role according to reports today.
One national newspaper said Mort was set to quit this summer and return to his former job as a full-time partner in the London offices of international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

The report went on to say Mort was not returning calls and sources confirmed that Freshfields expected him back but said no date had been set.

Mort did not resign from Freshfields after being appointed Newcastle's chairman by Mike Ashley when he took over the club last summer, and is believed to have told Ashley that he wants to leave Newcastle.

Nobody from Newcastle United was available to comment today.
