DANNY Guthrie hailed Joe Kinnear's instant impact at Newcastle after playing his part United's remarkable fightback at Everton.
Guthrie returned from a three-match suspension for Kinnear's first game in charge at Goodison Park yesterday.

Strikes from Steven Taylor and Damien Duff either side of the break saw Newcastle claim a point after going two goals down.

Guthrie told the Gazette: "Bringing a new manager in always give you a lift.

"The players have always came in and trained, and the feeling amongst the lads is good. There's been a lift."

Kinnear is Guthrie's third United manager, with the midfielder having been signed by Kevin Keegan in the summer and played under caretaker boss Chris Hughton last month.

He added: "Three managers in three months sounds worse than it actually is, and I just come in and train as normal.

"You play your hardest and try not to get sucked in to what is happening around you. You just want to play football."

Guthrie was still at school, and a long way from achieving his dream of playing professional football, when Kinnear and his Wimbledon team were taking on all comers.

However, the 21-year-old said: "I knew him from what he achieved at Wimbledon and Nottingham Forest.

"I was too young to watch Wimbledon, but I'm like everybody else, and I know what he has achieved.

"He has lots of experience, and he's has been a good choice."
