GOALKEEPER Tim Krul is ready to seize his chance at loan club Carlisle United with both hands.
But the 20-year-old – has joined the League One club on a month's loan, and could make his debut at home to Cheltenham Town tomorrow – is still unsure whether his long-term future lies at Newcastle United.

Krul replaces Ben Alnwick at Brunton Park, with the former Sunderland stopper having returned to Tottenham Hotspur, where first-choice Heurelho Gomes has been struggling between the posts.

And the Holland Under-21 international – who has made just one senior appearance for Newcastle – believes a spell at Carlisle is just what he needs, having not played a competitive game since January, after dislocating his shoulder playing for Scottish Premier League side Falkirk.

"I need to get out and play, and Carlisle is a good way to get some first-team games," Krul told the Gazette.

"I'm really happy about it. The opportunity has come now, and it'll be good to play for a month there. It's always good to get experience.

"I need to wait for my moment (at Newcastle), and when the moment comes, I need to be ready for it. It's always good to get some practice in like this."

Krul was the subject of a bid from Feyenoord in the summer, and he admits he does not know what January's transfer window holds.

He went on: "January's coming up, so I've got to make sure I show Newcastle what I can do. Hopefully, we'll go from there.

"Everything can happen. You never know what will happen, or the situation with Newcastle. I have to make sure I'm ready, and that's the most important thing."
