NEWCASTLE United old boy Ian Bennett felt for Steve Harper during his decade-long spell as understudy to Shay Given.
After all, ex-Newcastle and Peterborough United goalkeeper Bennett has been no stranger to the bench in his long career.

As he again demonstrated with two stunning saves in Monday night's 1-0 over Bennett's Sheffield United, Harper could easily have been first choice at another Premier League club.

"It was similar for me in my career," Bennett told the Gazette.

"I had Paddy Kenny in front of me, and he's a top-class keeper, but you always have to be ready and train right for when that opportunity comes.

"With me coming towards the end of my career now, every game is a bonus for me. To be a footballer is the best job in the world.

"He's now establishing himself. The two saves here were first-class. I know Steve, and have looked at his career. He's doing very well."
