NEWCASTLE United's reserves suffered their fourth defeat of the campaign away to Wigan Athletic last night.
Richard Money's side, which included first-teamer Steve Harper in goal, went down 2-1 at Robin Park, despite taking the lead through Nile Ranger in the 26th minute.
It was the second successive game Ranger had found the net, with the striker having struck in last week's win over Blackburn Rovers.
Newcastle lost forward Ryan Donaldson to injury six minutes before the break, and Wigan levelled through Joe Holt before the interval.
Jonathan Routledge sealed the points on the hour when he lobbed Harper.
United reserves: Harper, Morris, Folan, Doninger, Edgar, Tozer, Godsmark, Marwood, Ranger, Donaldson (McCrudden, 39), S Ameobi (Newton, 46). Subs not used: Tavernier, Johnson, McLaughlin.
