Futuristic visitor to the Tyne

editorial image

THE futuristic shape of the Royal Navy’s latest warship, Defender, slips into the River Tyne.

Defender, a state-of the-art vessel, is the fifth of six Type 45 destroyers built by BAE systems on the Clyde.

She is due to leave the Tyne today after a five-day stay. Her visit precedes by a week the arrival into North Shields of her sister ship, HMS Dauntless, which is affiliated to Newcastle.

The photograph was taken by regular contributor Kevin Blair, of Hebburn.

If you have any images of South Tyneside you’d like to see featured in Points of View, e-mail your picture, with details, to gazette.photos@northeast-press.co.uk, or gazette.letters@northeast-press.co.uk
