STUDIO album No 6 from Boston, MA's finest streetpunks is possibly their most intense yet, and I love it.
DKM are one of my favourite bands, and their pumped up folk-punk has
attracted a cult following around the world.
They're never going to be mainstream, but songs such as (F)lannigan's
Ball, Shattered and Fairmount Hill deserve a wider audience
They even get away with a faithful cover of the Thin Lizzy classic Jailbreak.
Also out this week:
HOT HOT HEAT
Happiness Ltd (Sire)
ALBUM No 3 from the Canadian band who had a novelty hit with Bandages has been twoyears in the making, and it's well worth the wait.
After a promising debut they lost it a bit with the hugely disappointing
follow-up, but here they're right back on form.
They still sound like The Cure, but with a bit of The Killers mixed in.
THE RUMBLE STRIPS
Girls And Weather (Island Records)
DEVON'S Rumble Strips are tipped to go far, and on this evidence they'll
do just that.
The 12 songs on this debut album seep their way into your consciousness as soon as you hear them, and they soon seem like old friends.
They sound ever so slightly like Dexy's Midnight Runners, but that's not a bad thing.
