BOLDON Newtown Residents' Association strives to improve the close-knit community.
The group has been together for seven years and members have given their time and effort to make the area a better place in which to live.

They are part of the Boldon Partnership Group, where they have helped to shape decisions on housing development and demolition.

They have also organised countless events and fun days to help the community, and young people during the school holidays.

They have also worked closely with Boldon Newtown Neighbourhood Management Team to deliver the neighbourhood plan.

Neighbourhood manager Maria Anderson has nominated them for Community Group of the Year in the Pride of South Tyneside Awards.

She said: "This group has weathered many storms, but had the grit and determination to put in the time to help their community.

"They all have busy lives, but have always taken the time and effort to take part in events and consultation activities whenever they are asked.

"Boldon is a close-knit community and this strength and spirit has shone through over the last seven years.

"A modest group, they have worked together on some very difficult and sensitive issues and always give it their true commitment.

"I have found their input to be of great value and frankly, could not have delivered the regeneration projects without their support. I think after seven years doing voluntary work together, they deserve some recognition for their achievements for the Boldon community."
