SOUTH Tyneside Council for Voluntary Service (STCVS) knows a thing or two about the community.
So it is delighted to be sponsoring the Community Group of the Year category in the Pride of South Tyneside Awards.
STCVS is almost a 'one stop shop' for voluntary organisations and community groups in the borough, providing a range of services and support, most of which are free of charge.
Running an organisation or group in the voluntary sector can be difficult, and there are many areas where problems can arise, such as finding the money, recruiting and managing volunteers, payment of expenses, and health and safety.
STCVS is there to help any local group on all aspects of setting up or operating their organisation.
There is a highly experienced team of staff to provide advice, training, information or practical support and they are happy to come out and visit groups to discuss their requirements.
Funding advice, committee training, writing constitutions, recruiting volunteers and website design are only a few of the services STCVS provides.
It can also provide payroll services and end of year accounts examinations, as well as help with setting up book-keeping systems.
Director Allyson Stewart said: "South Tyneside still has a great sense of community and a strong and vibrant voluntary sector, and the CVS is proud to be able to play its part.
"The Pride of South Tyneside Awards is an ideal opportunity to showcase the work of the sector and demonstrate the work which is being carried out on a daily basis.
"We are proud to be sponsors of the Community Group of the Year category and we wish all the finalists the best of luck."
The Pride of South Tyneside Awards take place at the Customs House in South Shields on July 10.
