SUNDERLAND boss Steve Bruce said today it is "very unlikely" he will be making a January move for Tottenham winger David Bentley.

The former Arsenal and Blackburn man has not made a huge impact at White Hart Lane, despite Spurs boss Harry Redknapp giving him more of an opportunity of late.

The Black Cats are looking for cover for Steed Malbranque when the transfer window re-opens, and Bruce will also continue his quest for defensive enforcements at left-back.

The Sunderland boss sees Jordan Henderson's strongest position in central midfield but said today: "David Bentley is a good player, but I would consider a move for him very unlikely."

Bruce signed Darren Bent from Spurs in what turned out to be a drawn out saga, but he insisted there is no problem between the clubs ahead of this weekend's clash at White Hart Lane.
