A CHANGING room specialist is set for expansion, with new jobs on the way.
Jarrow-based businessman Keith Purvis and fellow managing director Mike Barker are planning to recruit more staff for their Abacus Design and Fabrication Ltd company.
The manufacturing and supply company has previously clinched high-profile contra
cts with Sunderland AFC, Everton FC and Manchester City FC.
Employing mostly South Tyneside workers, the firm makes and supplies a wide range of changing room and cloakroom furniture and fittings, plus storage and shelving.
The company's links with the sporting community were underlined recently when Mr Purvis attended a reception for the Tony Blair Sports Foundation and met the former Prime Minister.
Launched at Tedco Business Works, in Henry Robson Way, South Shields, about eight years ago, the firm has expanded its client base considerably in recent years and is now based at Crowther Industrial Estate, Washington.
Mr Purvis, 40, said: "We currently employ eight people, who are involved in fabrication and metal work, but we will be taking on two more in the next month.
"Our site covers 7,000sq ft and is our biggest premises so far.
"We are looking towards greater expansion.
"We have recently produced everything from boot hangers for Manchester City FC to changing room gear for Catterick Garrison, and we would like to secure more Ministry of Defence contracts.
"Current projects include making and supplying shelving and bench seating for Normandy Barracks, near Hull, and changing rooms for Morpeth Rugby Club."
The company's current annual turnover is £500,000 and the changing room specialist is gearing up for further expansion.
