HUNDREDS of Sunderland fans queued up in the evening sunshine to get their hands on the team's new strip.
Supporters camped outside the store at the Stadium of Light since midnight on Tuesday.

First in line was Andy Chapman, 47, of Colombo Road, Hylton Castle, who said: "I've done it for my grandson, Christian. I want him to be the first person in Sunderland to have the new strip."

Eight-year-old Christian, a pupil at Hylton Castle Primary School, caught the sun on his cheeks after he joined his grandad in the queue at 11am yesterday.

He said: "I'm a big Sunderland fan. Dean Whitehead is my favourite player because he is the captain.

"I will be proud to wear my new shirt on Sunday and I hope they win."

Whitehead himself turned up at 6pm yesterday to cut the red and white ribbons and let the eager fans into the shop.

Both Whitehead and striker Kenwyne Jones, who were on hand to sign shirts at the launch, gave the new kit their seal of approval.
