FRAIZER CAMPBELL hopes to grab his chance again in the Carling Cup tonight.
The summer signing's only Sunderland goal so far came in last month's third round home win over Birmingham City, who they lost to 2-1 in the Premier League on Saturday.
With Darren Bent out due to a knee injury, 22-year-old Campbell looks set to g
et another opportunity to shine as the Black Cats seek to recover from their dip at St Andrew's.
Former Manchester United striker Campbell – Steve Bruce's first Sunderland signing when he arrived in a summer deal worth up to £6m – has not started since beating the Blues in the last round.
The form of 13-goal pair Bent and Kenwyne Jones has restricted his chances, but the door is open at the Stadium of Light tonight.
Campbell said: "Credit to Benty and Kenwyne because they've been in fine form scoring goals and playing well.
"I am content to sit on the side of a good team for a bit, but when I get my chance, hopefully I can take it.
"I've played in most of the games this season so I feel very involved. It is a bit hard when you are coming on as a sub quite often to pick up the pace of the game.
"You probably see the best of people when they start games and hopefully that will be the case with me if I get into the side against Villa."
Martin O'Neill's Villa arrive on Wearside on the back of a 1-1 derby draw at Wolves on Saturday. A single Gabriel Agbonlahor strike gave them victory at home to Championship high-fliers Cardiff City in the last round.
"It's a big game," said Campbell. "We want to do well in the competition and hopefully I can get in the team.
"Villa had a great season last year and are going well again. I'm sure they'll bring a strong side.
"If we can win tonight then suddenly we'll be coming close to the end of the tournament so I'm sure we'll be well up for it."
Campbell was sent on as a 68th-minute sub at Birmingham on Saturday, a period that saw Sunderland produce their best football and go close to claiming a draw.
"If we played in the rest of the game like we did in the last half-hour, I am sure we would have got something," added the Yorkshireman.
"I had a chance to score and I was gutted because if we'd equalised then, I think we might even have pushed on and won it.
"It was disappointing for all the lads on Saturday and especially disappointing for all the fans who went down there to support us.
"We can't let is affect us too much because we have a big game to contend with tonight."
