KENWYNE Jones hopes his partnership with Djibril Cisse grows into something special.
The pair started a Premier League game together for the first time at the weekend, and fired Sunderland to their first win in six games.
Saturday's 2-1 win at Blackburn carried the Wearsiders from 19th to 11th in the table, and was the first time since April that the club had two strikers on the scoresheet.
Jones popped up with his first Premier League goal since April to equalise at Ewood Park, before Cisse poached the winner 19 minutes from time.
"I can't predict how good our partnership will be," said Jones. "You'll have to judge us at the end of the season.
"Hopefully we can grow with every training session and every game we play.
"Djib is really experienced and has played for some great clubs. It's exciting to work with him.
"We will see where it takes us, but it feels great we have come together, and I'm so happy we got the win that I think we deserved in the end on Saturday."
Jones has now left England to play in Trinidad & Tobago's World Cup qualifier against Cuba on Wednesday.
His last international appearance, against England in June, saw him suffer serious knee injury that threatened to end his season.
Jones said: "Every game is important to me, whether it is for my club or country.
"I'm looking forward to joining up with my team-mates over there before coming back and giving it everything for Sunderland.
"I don't want to regret not having the chance to go somewhere and play for my country.
"After the injury I had, for me every game is important, to get me back to full fitness."
The 24-year-old departed for international duty buoyed by his side's triumph at Blackburn.
Rovers had taken the lead in first-half added time before a more spirited performance from Sunderland after the break.
Jones said: "There was a time that we would not have been able to fight back like we did on Saturday.
"We clawed our way back into the game and got our win.
"It is all credit to the attitude and spirit of the team that we did that.
"It was a bruising game, but you are going to get that.
"You have to go away and fight for possession and get on top as a team."
