A TEENAGER who missed out on the final of a modelling competition hasn't been left in the shade.

South Shields Spectacle Wearer of the Year Rebecca Cape was presented with a pair of designer sunglasses as a consolation prize for missing the semi-final of the national Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.

The 17-year-old, from South Shields, was one of only 10 hopefuls selected from 521 entrants in the region to attend the semi-final in Newcastle on August 13.

But she missed out on the chance to reach the final in London due to a family holiday commitment.

On her return, she was presented with the prize by pop star David Ducasse at the Specsavers store in South Shields.

The top prize in the competition was a 12-month modelling contract and the chance to appear in a Specsavers advertising campaign.
