POLICE investigating three betting shop raids over the last two weeks say they could all be linked to the same two suspects – a man and woman from outside the area.
Detectives believe that an attempted Post Office raid in Carden Avenue, South Shields, also involved the pair.

However, they're still encouraging people to come forward with more information, and they're now hoping taxi drivers who may have inadve
rtently driven them away from the scene will come forward.

Detectives are awaiting the results of forensic tests which were submitted to scientists on Friday afternoon.

Police are now eager to speak to borough taxi drivers who may have picked up the robbers as a genuine fare after some of the raids.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Richardson, from South Shields CID, said: "After the robberies, the offenders may have left the area in a taxi.

"We're looking for taxi drivers who picked up customers near Pagebet in Dean Road, South Shields, on August 12 after 8pm, Coral in Grange Road, Jarrow on August 16 after 9pm, Eagleton's post office in Carden Avenue, South Shields, on August 18 after about 4.40pm, and Ladbrokes in Boldon Lane after about 9.15pm on the same night."

DS Richardson added: "This is a live investigation so we're still looking for more information from the public. We'd encourage anyone with information to come forward."

Anyone with information is asked to contact South Shields CID on 03456 043 043 ext 65023.
