Burglars leave a trail of destruction

BURGLARS broke into a South Tyneside flat and left a trail of destruction.
They struck at Simonside Hall, Simonside, at about 4.40am today – trashing the flat, setting the bedroom alight and turning on the taps, before fleeing.
Firefighters were alerted by neighbours.The bedroom was destroyed, and the rest of the flat smoke-damaged.
No one was at home at the time. Police are investigating.
