A PROBE is underway after a man got his hand trapped in a forklift truck at a recycling centre.

The accident happened at Van Dalen in Mitre Place, South Shields, at 2.50pm yesterday.

The worker, 40, was freed by officers from South Shields Fire Station before being taken to South Tyneside District Hospital by ambulance.

The Health and Safety Executive has been informed of the accident, and today a spokesman said it is investigating.
