WESLEY Ngo Baheng struck for the fourth successive game to press his first-team claims, but his goal wasn't enough to stop Newcastle United's reserves suffering a defeat to Rotherham.
Alan Thompson's side went down 4-2 to Rotherham United at the Don Valley Stadium last night, with 16-year-old forward Aaron Spear – signed from Plymouth Argyle last year – scoring Newcastle's other goal.

Spear opened the scoring in the 12th minute, but Rotherham struck four unanswered goals before Baheng's late strike, which turned out to be nothing more than a consolation.

Baheng has found the net in all four of his reserve league appearances this season.

The teenager is hoping his form in front of goal has pushed him closer to first-team action, having seen boss Chris Hughton's willingness to put his faith in youth, with Nile Ranger given an extended run in his side.

"Chris has told me that I must keep on working hard in training and doing well in the reserves," said Baheng. "And my aim is to get in those first-team squads.

"There are a few of us who feel we are close now. Scoring goals is good for any forward player, and hopefully I can continue to do that to stay in contention for the first team.

"That was my aim at the start of the season, and it will stay my aim."
