NEWCASTLE United striker Shola Ameobi has joined promotion-chasing Stoke City until the end of the season.
The 26-year-old has been signed by the Championship on a deadline day emergency loan, and goes straight into Tony Pulis's squad for Saturday's game against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

Out of favour Ameobi - who has spent all his career at St James's Park - had made just two appearances under Kevin Keegan, who last week told the Gazette he needed to work harder to force his way into his plans.

Stoke - knocked out of the FA Cup by United earlier this season - are understood to have paid a six-figure fee to take the former England Under-21 international to the Britannia Stadium.

Ameobi is under contract at Newcastle until the end of next season, and should the Potters win promotion to the Premier League, then they could attempt to make the move permanent.
