Beye and his team-mates have only recorded two home and away successes this season against Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur.

And having helped Newcastle to a 3-2 success over David Moyes's high-flying side back in October, right-back Beye is keen for United to end the campaign by getting back to winning ways ahead of what he hopes will be a top-six challenge next season.

Beye believes Newcastle are capable of challenging the likes of Everton and Aston Villa – both competing for fifth place and UEFA Cup football – next term.

He told the Gazette: "We have one more game, and it's important for us to have a good finish.

"We beat Everton at home 3-2, and it would be good to win again.

"Everton are a good team, but not better than Newcastle, I think.

"The big thing is to build something for next season. I think the last eight games have been good, and we can build on them.

"I think it's very important for Newcastle to finish in the top six."

Newcastle will be backed by their usual 3,000-strong travelling army for their final game of the season.

And Beye is hoping to thank them for their unwavering support in the best way possible, by taking all three points at Goodison Park for the first time since October 2001.

He added: "The fans have been brilliant all season.

"It has been very difficult for them, because we have had some bad moments this season.

"When you saw the crowd at the end of the game (against Chelsea), it was brilliant for us. We were very disappointed, as we wanted to do better for them."

Meanwhile, with Mikel Arteta now recovering back home in Spain following a stomach operation, Everton may well be unchanged.

Tony Hibbert will continue at right-back, with skipper Phil Neville in the holding midfield role he occupied in last weekend's 1-0 defeat at Arsenal.
