PHILIP Bell produced an immaculate innings of 73 in South Shields's Premier League match against Newcastle last Saturday to earn him the man of the match award.
When he arrived at the crease his side were in real trouble at 30-3, but in a patient, assured and risk-free manner he dragged the Wood Terrace side out of the mire.

After lunch, he again helped to rebuild the innings to guide Shields to a competitive, and ultimately match-winning, total.

The match was sponsored by Eximius – the third since South Shields's promotion to the North East Premier League.

James Mavor, MD of the London ship broking company, said: "We are proud and delighted to be a match-day sponsor for South Shields Cricket Club and are thrilled that Phil's superb contribution helped the team to gain a positive result."

South Shields's main sponsor is Pet Supermarket, and their backing is crucial to the club's progress at all levels.

The club runs eight teams at senior and junior level, and also has an effective partnership with Simonside Cricket Club that is of great developmental value to many of the club's youngsters.
