Ashley will back Chris in window

CHRIS Hughton is confident Mike Ashley will cough up more cash if his Newcastle United squad needs strengthening in January.

The club was not among the Premier League's big spenders this summer, yet Hughton still signed five players.

While Hughton, pictured, is happy with what he's got for now, and the balance of youth and experience, he recognises his playing staff could need adding to in the next transfer window.

"In January, we'll re-assess what we have, and I think I'll get the backing of the owner (Ashley) if we need to strengthen the team."

Hughton went on: "When you look at the players we've signed, they have the best years in front of them.

"You have Dan Gosling at 20, Cheik Tiote at 24, James Perch at 24, and Hatem Ben Arfa at 23.

"Sol Campbell has been brought in for different reasons, but we're looking to the future with this group."
