Boldon looking for another Northern League scalp

BOLDON chase another Northern League scalp tomorrow when they try to reach the quarter-finals of the Durham Challenge Cup.

The Wearside League side host Crook Town, having disposed of Hebburn and Brandon already.

The latter win was new management duo Darren Palmer and Doug Key's first game in charge, but they must bounce back from a narrow defeat at Easington at the weekend.

Boldon are the only Wearside League outfit left in the competition, and will have a home draw against Consett in the last eight if they progress.

Palmer and Key held an extra training session last night to assess the fitness of the squad, and the return of Mark Johnson, Nick Quinn, Dave Hopper, James Hudson and Mark Williams will boost their chances.

Palmer, an ex-Crook player, said: "The experience of playing against Northern League clubs can only help improve the young squad we have."

Key added: "Not only is it good to carry the flag for the Wearside League, it will show us how we compare to Northern League standards if we progress into the next round."

The game is a 1.30pm kick-off in case extra time and penalties are required.
