Whiteleas and Harton CC begin life in the Durham Cricket League First Division with a tough opener as they welcome Philadelphia to Harton Welfare tomorrow, 1.30pm start.
Following last year’s memorable promotion campaign, Leas have endured a busy winter recruitment with the addition of three new players to their ranks.
All rounder Rameez Nawaz, as well as batsmen Conor Elliot and Dev Sudhir, all make their debuts in tomorrow’s clash. There is also a return to the club for Ryan Dowens following a short spell at Marsden CC.
Skipper Owen Peterson will be assisted by wicket-keeper Scott Oliver this season, however, the latter misses his sides curtain raiser as he concludes management duties at Hebburn Town FC.
And captain Peterson is delighted that the club have secured the services of overseas professional Abdul Ameer for another season, following a remarkable 2016 campaign.
He said: “We’ve been working since December to ensure the club gets the right accreditation in order to get Abdul back.
“That’s been our No 1 priority, therefore it’s great that he’s returned as he’s a class act on and off the pitch.
“We’ve also done well to get the others in that we have, as we know it’s going to be a very competitive division with some excellent sides.”
There is no game for the second XI tomorrow as Philadelphia’s ground is unavailable.
The club would like to thank KP Simpson Accountants, Hero Healthcare and Gallant Heating Solutions for their continued sponsorship support.
