Durham stalemate in store?

A DRAW looks the likely outcome at the Riverside after no play was possible because of rain on the third day of Durham's County Championship Division One match against Somerset.

On 41-1 in their second innings, Somerset are 57 behind, and have little chance of forcing the win they need to stay in the title race.

The draw would not be a bad result for Durham, despite them hoping to clinch a win which would put them on the verge of successfully defending their title.

Second-placed Nottinghamshire put themselves in a position to force their first victory in nine Championship matches as Yorkshire were made to struggle at Trent Bridge.

Despite some defiance from Joe Sayers (53) and Jonathan Bairstow (49), Notts worked their way steadily through the visiting batting line-up to leave Yorkshire at 220-8 by the close.
