Five wins for new old boy Craig
CRAIG Errington, from South Shields Harriers, reeled off five victories on his debut in the North Eastern Veterans' Track and Field Championships at Monkton Stadium on Saturday.
Competing in the over-35 section, Errington won the javelin with a throw of 27.03m and achieved 9.82m in the triple jump.
He won the shot with 9.28m and the high jump with 1.35m, and completed a successful day with 1.96m in the long jump.
Don Butler, from Jarrow and Hebburn AC, again dominated in the over-70 sprint events, winning the 100m in 14.8, 200m in 30.5, and 400m in 71.4.
Terry Hudson, as expected, continued his unbeaten record in the over-60 field events.
Hudson enjoyed a fine sequence with 30.63m in the javelin, 35.11m for the discus, 10.65m in the shot, and a hammer distance of 33.46m.
In the new event of throwing a weight, Hudson was also first with 12.62m.
Shields's Jamie Scorer and his team-mate Lee Henry accelerated clear in the over-35 men's 100m with Scorer three tenths of a second ahead in 12.6.
Henry, however, won the 200m in 26.3, with Scorer second in 26.9.
Henry was again first in the 400m in 59.7, and was second in the shot with 8.03m. Scorer was also second in the triple jump with 8.62m.
Elaine Elliott, from the Shields club, won the over-35 women's 100m in 14.8, and the 200m in 31.4, with Jarrow's Vicki Thompson second in 35.4.
Elliott secured her hat-trick in the 400m in 71.4, with Emma Walton, of Wallsend, second in 75.3, and Thompson third in 81.4.
Thompson won the 1500m in 6:03.8, was second in the 800m in 3:17.5, and third in the 3,000m in 14:01.2.
Jarrow's John Lawton finished second in the over-55 long jump with 3.87m, and in the javelin with 31.63m. He was also third in the 100m in 14.8, and fourth in both the 200m in 29.5 and the 400m in 71.4.
Joe Prudham was first in the over-70 1500m in 7:05.2, and in the 3,000m in 14:11.7.
Shields's Kevin Ayres won the over-45s 3,000m in 12:12.1 and was second in both the 1500m in 5:17.1 and 5,000m in 19:42. He then finished first in the triple jump with 8.86m.
Phil McCluskey finished second with 58.4 in the over-40 men's 400m as Durham's Paul Donachy won in 57.0. McCluskey was again second in the 200m in 25.9, with Donachy first in 24.8.
In the hammer, McCluskey won with 16.98m and the long jump with 3.77m.
Peter Walker finished second in the over-55s 800m in 2:37.7 and was third in the 5,000m in 20:21.0, and in the long jump with 3.54m.
Dave Thompson was second in the over-55 men's shot with 8.24m and Ken McDonald was third in the over-65 men's 5,000m in 26:46.
