Jarrow give Chiefs a scare in La Liga
LEADERS Consett Chiefs got the fright of their lives when they trailed 1-0 to Gateshead in La Liga Division One of the Chase Holmes South Tyneside Youth League.
Chaney had fired their opponents in front, and although the Chiefs responded well, they found it hard to break down a resilient Gateshead defence in the heavy conditions.
But with time running out, Overal and Milner netted late strikes to secure a 2-1 win for Chiefs.
In a hard-fought match, Jarrow FC Cheetahs got the better of a spirited Whiteleas Galaxy, running out 7-2 winners.
Jarrow started well, and after early pressure Harris netted twice in style to put his side in the driving seat.
Galaxy fought back and Pascoe scored a good goal to pull one back.
However, Pinnock finished off a good move to make it 3-1 to the Cheetahs.
To their credit, Whitleas fought back again and Shotton fired in Galaxy's second to make things interesting.
Jarrow stepped up their game in the second half when Bowie fired home, and Harris completed his hat-trick.
Bowie scored his second, while a cracking free-kick from Ross sealed Cheetahs' win.
A mention must go to Minchella, who starred for the Jarrow side.
Boldon Colts moved up into second spot after their 6-0 victory over Fatfield FC. Star man McCaffery netted four goals for his side along with strikes from Jackson and Robertson.
Hebburn Town Blues enjoyed a well-deserved 3-1 victory over Wrekenton Nou Camp.
Maddison netted for Nou Camp, but goals from Carter, Ellison and a well-taken penalty from Moyse- Mukhtar sealed the win for Blues.
Mention must go to Brown and Dodd for their excellent defending.
Leam Rangers scored a very good 2-0 win over Hebburn Reyrolle, with Makepeace and Sharpe getting the all-important goals, and capping a fine team performance.
Sheriff Hill Reds were delighted to pick up their second point of the campaign when they took on fellow strugglers Consett Raiders and came away with a 2-2 draw.
Slater and Robson took their chances well for Sheriff Hill, with Wilson grabbing both Raiders goals.
In Division Two, Gladiators took the points against Ryhope CW Blues in a tight, and entertaining clash.
Wanless netted the only goal of the game in the final minute of the first half, tucking his chance away in great style.
Monkton Juniors and Consett Terriers shared the points in a cracking game, which ended 0-0. Both defences and keepers were in top form.
Ryhope CW Reds kept up their fine form when they inflicted a 4-1 defeat on St Cuthbert's.
McQuiggin netted well for the Durham side, but goals from McKenzie (2), Price and McCoy, secured the points for the Sunderland outfit.
In one of the top clashes of the day, leaders Hebburn Town Gold had to battle all the way to get a good 2-1 win over FC Sparta.
McPhail was on the mark for Sparta, but strikes from Parker, with his 19th of the season, and Scott keep Hebburn top of the tree.
A mention must also go to Earl, who was outstanding at the back for Gold.
In the big Hebburn derby, it was Quay who came out on top as they beat Phoenix 4-0.
On the mark for Quay were Yorston (2), Elliott and Courtnell.
In a very close game, both East Durham and Hebburn Town Juniors were happy to go home with a point.
Both sides played well in a very entertaining 2-2 draw.
White and Holland notched for Durham, with Carey and Davison replying for Hebburn.
