It didn’t take long for Morpeth to open the scoring as Steven Anderson brought down Ben Sayers’ cross and fired it into the net after 10 minutes.

Ten minutes later, Chris Reid was brought down after charging into Jarrow Roofing’s penalty area, before Luke Carr put the resultant penalty over the bar.

The visitors’ lead was doubled in the 27th minute when Sean Taylor danced through the Roofing defence and rounded goalkeeper Andy Jennison before slotting home.

The first-half was capped off for Morpeth when they went 3-0 up thanks to Anderson’s lob over Jennison’s head.

The second half was a different story for Roofing.

They came out of the traps straight away as Kerry Hedley dragged a shot wide five minutes after the restart.

Roofers pulled one back on 53 minutes as Arj Purewal rose to meet Kris Hughes’ corner to bring his side back into the game.

It looked to be curtains for Roofing on 60 minutes when Chris Reid’s head met Keith Grayson’s free-kick and made it 4-1.

But Kris Hughes gave Roofing another glimmer of hope moments later when he bent a 25-yard screamer into the top corner.

Dan Kirkup’s goal on 64 minutes made for a very interesting finale to the match. The goal came from another Hughes corner which bounced off the big defender and into the Morpeth goal.

Morpeth looked to have put the game beyond doubt in the 67th minute when Sayer’s shot hit the post and Sean Taylor was fortunate enough to be in position to tap in the rebound for his second of the night.

Paul Chow’s late goal made it 5-4 in an astonishing finale. Hughes’ free-kick was nodded on by Purewal and met at the far post by Chow.

Roofing then had another effort cleared off the line but Morpeth managed to see the game out.
