With the Roofers heading into the game on the back of three consecutive defeats, Richie McLoughlin and Mark Collingwood’s men made the short distance trip to Chester-le-Street hopeful of collecting maximum points against a team in the relegation zone.

After a bright start, which saw the Roofers take control of the game, the opening goal arrived on 25 minutes through Arjun Purewal.

Kris Hughes’ corner was cleared, but the ball was then collected out on the touchline by the wideman.

After beating his man, Hughes delivered a low cross which was turned in by Purewal.

McLoughlin and Collingwood were forced into two changes when the injured Kerry Hedley and Shaun Vipond were withdrawn, with Tom Bailey and Michael Mackay entering the play.

The latter had a great chance to extend the lead when Chester’s goalkeeper Jack Wilson spilled a long-range shot from Anth Myers.

Wilson, however, reacted quickly to spread himself as Mackay readied to finish, deflecting the follow-up shot over the bar.

With Andy Jennison rarely employed aside from kicking, the Roofing keeper conceded a penalty on 69 minutes when Dominic Laws went down under pressure when chasing the ball in the corner of the penalty area.

After the assistant referee signalled for a goal-kick, the referee pointed to the spot and Lee Mole stepped up and sent Jennison the wrong way.

Two minutes later, Jamie Marshall was adjudged to have pushed an attacker and Mole converted the resultant penalty to put his side into the lead.

Roofing pushed hard in the final moments and with Cestrians dropping deeper, Chow managed to grab a leveller two minutes into added on time.

Bailey collected the ball on the right and his angled cross was nodded back across goal by Dan Kirkup, with Chow bundling the ball in at the back post to give the Roofers a deserved share of the spoils.

Next up for the Roofers is a trip to Easington on Thursday night in a League Cup clash.
