Jarrow Roofing all but secured Northern League Division One football for next season as doubles from Paul Chow, Adam Rundle and Michael Mackay saw them take all three points against a bottom side Norton last night, writes Adam Eley.
Rundle opened the scoring early for Roofing, only for Thibault Charmey to equalise shortly after. Rundle doubled his tally shortly before half-time to give his side the lead at the break.
Norton quickly answered with two goals in as many minutes from Ryu Williamson to take a 2-3 lead after half time only for Chow to get a pair of his own on to make it 4-3.
Substitute Nicky Martin got Ancients back level at 4-4 but Mackay’s brace was enough to see Roofing take home the points.
Roofing looked dangerous from the start with Rundle powering home after an effort after Carl Robinson saved from a Mackay shot.
Despite taking the lead, Roofing failed to double their advantage. Instead a Phillip Caley cross was met by an acrobatic bicycle kick from Charmey to even the score after 15 minutes.
Mackay and Rundle linked up again after 39 minutes with Rundle’s second ensuring a 2-1 lead for the hosts at half-time.
Norton though looked a different team coming into the second half and thanks to Williamson’s two goals in two minutes saw the visitors take an unlikely 3-2 lead.
First, on 46 minutes Williamson raced onto a loose ball to round Daniel Regan to fire into an empty net, then onto a through ball to get his second on 48 minutes.
Roofing pushed for an equaliser and on 64 minutes, Chow saw his shot cleared off the line by Jamie Tunstall.
Chow did find the net on 76 minutes to make it 3-3 after meeting a James Fairley cross before converting a penalty on 82 minutes after substitute Jamie Marshall was brought down in the box for his 25th goal of the season.
Norton again drew level on 84 minutes - Martin firing high beyond Regan’s reach.
Pressure told for Roofing though and after a controversial disallowed goal, Mackay bagged his first in added time before he doubled his account a minute later.
The result sees Roofing on 41 points, and with breathing room between themselves and the relegation places.
