Monkton Reds see off Cougars in U9s Prem
MONKTON Reds enjoyed a good win over Consett Cougars as the Under-9s Premier League of the Chase Holmes South Tyneside Youth League resumed.
They played some fine football in the heavy conditions, and were well worth their 5-1 victory.
Hall took his chance well for the Cougars, but strikes from French, Whitfield and a tremendous hat-trick from star man McKeith secured the points for Monkton.
Second-placed Leam Rangers Yellows took on Monkton Juniors Yellows, who were just two places below them in the table.
And a game which was always going to be a close encounter ended with honours even at 1-1.
Hardy netted for Monkton, while Caisley replied for Leam.
South Shields Raiders moved into fifth place after their 4-0 win over Harraton.
Raiders started well in the sticky conditions, and played some good football, while Athletic looked dangerous on the break.
Raiders pressure finally paid off when Attewell neatly tucked the ball home after a fine run.
Attewell added his second, showing great strength and skill to finish with a low shot.
Athletic had their chances, but Elliott was having a fine game in goal for the Raiders, pulling off some great stops.
Miller then added Raiders' third with a fierce cross-shot, before Attewell wrapped up the points when he coolly completed his hat-trick to cap a fine team performance.
Leaders Jarrow Boys FC scored a big win over Leam Rangers Rascals who were down to six players. Jarrow scored freely through McCulloch (2), Pounder, McCormack, Malley (2), and the impressive McElhatton (5).
IN a cracking match between two sides near the top of Division One, Whiteleas Barcelona and Sparta FC ended up with a point apiece after their 0-0 draw.
Despite there being no goals, this was a well-contested encounter played in very muddy conditions.
Barca's Smirthwaite had an early shot well saved by Fearon, in goal for Sparta.
Hall then saved his side from going behind with a brilliant stop when coming off his line to smother the ball at the on-rushing forward's feet.
Both sides pressed for a winner and Barca's Turnbull thought he had succeeded, but his great strike struck the post.
A mention must go to Sparta's Seff who had an outstanding game.
Hebburn Reyrolle scored a good 5-0 win over South Shields Dial-a-cab, who never gave up trying. Goals from Douthwaite (2), Goodman (2), and Oughton secured the points for the Hebburn side.
Hebburn Town Gold put up a bold show against Jarrow Boys Blues before going down 3-0.
Daily and Furness (2) were on target for Blues, while Walton was outstanding.
Consett Cannons took on Whiteleas Brazil, and it was the Durham side who came out on top in a very entertaining match.
Weaver was the Consett star, bagging two goals and putting in a superb display, with Clarke adding a good third to wrap up the points for the Cannons.
St Cuthbert's moved up into joint fourth after their splendid 2-0 win over Harraton Athletic Greens.
Mathewson and Lyons were the goal-scoring heroes, capping a fine display from the Durham side.
Hebburn Town Blues took a fine point off high-flying Ryhope CW.
Kirby netted well for the Sunderland side, but a good goal from Gibson gave his side a share of the spoils.
