HARIS Vuckic won praise from Malky Mackay after opening his Cardiff City account last night.

The Newcastle United midfielder scored in the club’s 3-1 home win over Peterborough.

Vuckic joined Cardiff on a month’s loan last week to gain first-team experience.

And the talented 19-year-old marked his home debut with a their third goal.

Mackay said: “I was delighted for Haris, and delighted with the way we went about our business.”

Cardiff’s victory breathed life into the Championship club’s promotion bid.

Mackay’s side are in third place, and three points behind Southampton in second.

“It’s tight at the top, other results have gone our way and we are back in the mix,” added Mackay.

“We looked more like the team that we’ve been since the start of the season. We got after our opponents and won a lot of second balls.”

League leaders West Ham were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Southampton.
