NEWCASTLE United will be gunning for all three points in Sunday’s high noon showdown with fierce rivals Sunderland.

That’s the message from Magpies manager Alan Pardew, as he gears his side up for the 146th Tyne-Wear derby.

Newcastle go into the game on the back of a disappointing 2-2 draw at home to Wolves last weekend, and Pardew is demanding his players bounce back with a victory to keep them in the hunt for a European place.

“We just want to get four points from the two home games and on the back of the run we’ve had that is a success,” he said.

“I want to win the game.

“We don’t want one point from this, that’s for sure.”

The fact that United are chasing a European place adds extra spice to the clash, with Sunderland chasing hard on their heels after a remarkable turnaround in fortunes under Martin O’neill.

The Magpies are 10 points ahead of the Black Cats, and just three points off Arsenal, who occupy the final Champions League spot.

“It is an important game in terms of our league position as well, and not just playing Sunderland.

“We are very much aware of how much it means to the fans.

“I hope they create the atmosphere that will give us the platform to win the game.”
