Aleksandar Mitrovic says he NEVER considered leaving Newcastle United in the wake of relegation.
The striker returns from suspension in tonight’s EFL Cup tie against Cheltenham Town at St James’s Park.
No. I knew I wanted to stay here. My dream was to succeed here, to play here, I’m following my dream.Aleksandar Mitrovic
Mitrovic picked up a four-game ban for his red card against Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of last season as it was his second dismissal of the campaign.
The 21-year-old joined the club from Anderlecht for £12million last summer to play Premier League football.
But Mitrovic says he was determined to stay and help the club win promotion from the Championship.
Asked if he thought about leaving, Mitrovic said: “No. I knew I wanted to stay here.
“My dream was to succeed here, to play here, I’m following my dream. Hopefully, I can win titles and cups with this club. I’m staying to make my dream come true.”
United manager Rafa Benitez feels Mitrovic will give him a different option up front.
“It’s important because we didn’t have too many options up front,” said Benitez.
“I think he is a different kind of striker. He can give us some physicality too.”
Asked if he would play against Cheltenham, Benitez said: “I think so.”
