AYOZE Perez says the decision to join Newcastle United was down to how important they made him feel.
The 20-year-old striker has signed a long-term contract with the Magpies, believed to be five years.
The forward joins from Tenerife in the Segunda Division, where he enjoyed a successful season, scoring 16 goals in 34 appearances.
That form attracted the attention of a number of clubs, with Real Madrid, Arsenal and Benfica linked with the player.
But he says he was in no doubt Newcastle was the best place to continue his career.
“There’s been many clubs interested in me, but this one was the most serious one, and the one that has treated me the best and valued me the most,” Ayoze said.
The negotiation has been very good and that helps when you want to choose which club to go to.
“I’m very eager to start playing for Newcastle United.
“All those clubs are important but I have to look after my interests and I think at Newcastle I can do great things, can grow there and help the club grow.”
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew was delighted to have beaten off competition to sin the striker.
He added: “We’re very pleased to have Ayoze at Newcastle United, as a number of other clubs were chasing his signature too.
He had a terrific season in Spain last year and is a player who we hope to develop further on Tyneside.”
