Cabaye banned for three games after appeal fails

RETURN ... Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye has served a three-game ban.

RETURN ... Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye has served a three-game ban.

YOHAN Cabaye has failed in his appeal against an FA charge of violent conduct.

The Frenchamn was contesting the decision to hand him a three-game ban for an incident involving Adam El-Abd in Saturday’s 1-0 FA Cup defeat at Brighton.

Manager Alan Pardew insisted the kick, which left El-Abd with a cut lip, was accidental, but the governing body’s regulatory commision rejected Cabaye’s appeal.

The midfielder will now miss tonight’s game at Ewood Park, and will also be suspended for Sunday’s game against Aston Villa and the trip to Tottenham Hotspur.

It’s a blow to Pardew, who is still without Cheik Tiote who is on African Cup of Nations duty with Ivory Coast.

The Magpies boss must decide who partners Danny Guthrie in the centre of midfield this evening, with Haris Vuckic, Dan Gosling and Mehdi Abeid vying for the spot.
