DeAndre Yedlin’s arrival at Newcastle United has spelled the end for Daryl Janmaat.

The defender is on the brink of a £5million move from Tottenham Hotspur, having arrived on Tyneside yesterday.

Yedlin – who spent last season on loan at Sunderland – watched last night’s 2-0 EFL Cup win over Cheltenham Town at St James’s Park.

The 23-year-old will undergo a medical today before completing the formalities of the move.

Janmaat, left out against Bristol City at the weekend, was not involved against Cheltenham.

Watford have had a £7.5million bid for Janmaat accepted, but West Ham United are also bidding to sign the 27-year-old.

Janmaat, understood to have said his goodbyes ahead of the cup tie, is interested in a move to the London Stadium, and the club could yet match Watford’s offer.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez refused to talk about the futures of Yedlin and Janmaat after the Cheltenham game.

“We don’t talk about these things,” said Benitez, who had said ahead of the cup tie that it would take a “fantastic” offer to persuade the club to sell Janmaat.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Rob Elliot, recovering from a long-term knee injury, is understood to have agreed a new long-term contract at St James’s Park.

The club are likely to announce the deal next week.

Elliot – who anterior cruciate ligament playing for the Republic of Ireland in March – could be back in contention for a comeback in October.
