Newcastle United's players have donned fancy dress for their Christmas party.

Christian Atsu today posted a photograph of the team in London.

Newcastle beat Burton Albion 2-1 yesterday thanks to goals from Dwight Gayle and Mohamed Diame.

The club's victory at the Pirelli Stadium claimed the Christmas No 1 spot for the club, and Rafa Benitez's players had a deserved party in the capital.

Atsu tweeted: "Love it at winter wonderland with these costume wears. #London #ninjatortoise #spiderman."

United manager Benitez said last week that his players could have a party with his blessing.

“My feeling is that to have players having a lunch or dinner or spending some time together ... normally, it’s positive,” said Benitez.

“The dangerous thing, I told them, is don’t do silly things, especially (with) social media. “Don’t do silly things, just be normal and enjoy and that’s it.

“You have to find the positive side of this.

“Hopefully, they don’t do any silly things and we will talk about how happy they are and things like this.”
