Former Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote has died.

The ex-Magpies man is reported to have collapsed on the training pitch and been rushed to hospital where he subsequently died.

His agent, this afternoon, confirmed the tragic news.

Tiote, 30, only left the United in February after five years on Tyneside, to sign for Chinese Super League outfit Beijing Enterprises.

He will always be remembered by Newcastle fans for his famous goal in the closing stages of the 4-4 draw against Arsenal in 2011.

Tiote's spokesman Emanuele Palladino said: "It is with deep sadness that I confirm that my client Cheick Tiote sadly passed away earlier today after collapsing in training with his club Beijing Enterprises.
