Isaac Hayden’s given an insight into Rafa Benitez’s management at Newcastle United.

Benitez’s side have lost their first three games this season.

We’ve got a young group, and he hasn’t dug anybody out individually. He’s made it more of a team thing,

United were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night. The defeat followed Premier League losses to Huddersfield Town and Tottenham Hotspur.

Newcastle return to the field tomorrow for a home game against West Ham United.

And Benitez, battling to bring more players to the club this summer, is attemping to shield his players from the pressure which is building on Tyneside.

“To be honest, the manager has been fantastic,” said midfielder Hayden.

“We’ve got a young group and he hasn’t dug anybody out individually.

“He’s made it more of a team thing, and he’s been fantastic for everybody, especially the young lads, but also the whole team.

“It’s just about making sure that whoever gets on the pitch, whatever time that is, whether it’s for three minutes or 90, that they do themselves justice and do the fans justice too.

“(The Carabao Cup) wasn’t meant to be, but we’re out of the cup, so we just have to leave it now and forget about it, and move on to the Premier League and concentrate on that.”

Hayden believes Newcastle can overcome West Ham – with the backing of the club’s fans.

“It’s a massive game, and the fans can make a massive difference,” said the 22-year-old.

“We do appreciate the support. We can understand that it’s hard enough for them as it is, but we know from last season that they stick with us.”
