SUNDERLAND will need to make a big money bid of more than 10 million Euros if they want to land Juventus midfielder Emanuele Giaccherini.

Reports in Italy over the weekend suggested Sunderland have been in discussions with Italian giants Juventus for the signature of Giaccherini and have made an offer of more than £7m for the 28-year-old.

The attacking midfielder, who has also been monitored by Newcastle, is mooted to be Sunderland’s main offensive target now that a move for AZ Alkmaar Jozy Altidore is close to being finalised.

But Juventus are in no rush to part company with Giaccherini, who impressed for Italy in last month’s Confederations Cup.

There are suggestions though that if Sunderland are to raise their offer beyond 10m Euros (£8.7m), Juventus may be tempted to part company with Giaccherini.

Sunderland may be prepared to go that high, with their transfer kitty swelled by the sales of Simon Mignolet and Ahmed Elmohamady, plus the likely departure of Ji Dong-won.

But the deal remains a long shot, with even Giaccherini’s own agent, Furio Valcareggi, playing down Sunderland’s chances of landing the midfielder.

“Antonio Conte (Juventus manager) does not even want to talk about the sale of Giaccherini for he is not for sale,” said Valcareggi.

“Giaccherini isn’t tempted. He is fine at Juventus. He still feels he has the confidence of the club and still wants to win so much.”

Meanwhile, Sunderland’s hopes of signing Manchester City striker John Guidetti are likely to end in failure, according to weekend reports.

Guidetti, who was a client of ex-agent and new Sunderland director of football Roberto De Fanti, has been earmarked by the Black Cats as a potential striking recruit this summer.

But new City boss Manuel Pellegrini is thought to be a fan of Guidetti and is willing to give the Swedish international a first-team opportunity next season.

That is likely to scupper Sunderland’s hopes of landing Guidetti either on loan or in a permanent deal.
