LIVERPOOL, Newcastle, Manchester United and Spurs made the main transfer headlines today.

As well as the one-off saga of Luis Suarez’s transfer, Liverpool were also in the news as they were linked with a new left-back.

The Daily Mirror reported that the Reds would pursue a loan move for versatile Benfica defender Lorenzo Melgarejo, 22, and see him as possible cover for Jose Enrique.

Fulham are set to move for Aston Villa striker Darren Bent, 29, after discovering Italy forward Pablo Osvaldo, 27, intends to stay at Roma, reported the Times.

Bent has been linked with a move to Newcastle United, with Fulham believed to have pulled out of the running last week.

Meanwhile, another England striker’s future was discussed today.

The Times also reports that Chelsea will wait until after Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial against Sevilla on 9 August to make a second offer for Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney.

The Blues believe that a hostile reaction towards the England striker, 27, will boost the chances of United agreeing to sell.
