ON-loan striker Luuk de Jong’s career at Newcastle United is not over – but he’s still running out of time at the club.
De Jong hobbled off the pitch against Swansea City nine days ago with an ankle problem.
And it was feared the 23-year-old had kicked his last ball for the club.
But the Holland international – who won’t be involved against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium tonight – is expected to be fit for the club’s penultimate game of the season, Saturday’s home fixture against Cardiff City.
“De Jong is going to miss this game, but he should be OK for Cardiff,” Pardew told the Gazette.
“His ankle is not too bad.”
De Jong – who hasn’t scored a goal in his 11 United appearances – hasn’t given up hope of earning a permanent move to the club from Borussia Monchengladbach.
But his injury has left him with just two more games in which to convince the club he can bring goals to Newcastle.
United are looking to sign two strikers in the summer transfer window.
