Former Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko hopes his former club secure promotion back to the Premier League this season.

But the Frenchman admits he has no regrets about leaving St James' Park this summer.

"I do follow them a little - I have lots of friends there. We stay in touch," Sissoko told Foot Mercato.

"I see what they do, that’s fine. They are doing very well.

"I hope it will go on like this all season and they will have the chance to go back in the Premier League."

Sissoko, much like he did at United, has divided opinion since his mega money switch to Tottenham Hotspur.

He has come in for a fair bit of criticism of late from Spurs fans, particularly for his under-par performances in the Champions League.

But the 27-year-old, who cost the White Hart Lane outfit £30million on deadline day, says he feels everything is going well at Spurs.

Sissoko feels he is developing and has no regrets about leaving United after what he describes a "very complicated" summer.

"It was very complicated," Sissoko said.

"I was waiting for my transfer, I did not know where I was going to play and what I would do.

"So, I say again, it was a complicated summer.

"But today I’m very happy with everything that happened to me.

"Having signed for Tottenham, a great club, now I feel very good in the head and physically. I feel I have progressed so that’s good.

"My desire was to stay in the Premier League."
