New job for sacked Newcastle boss?

SAM Allardyce could be set for an immediate return to football mamagement - taking charge of the Republic of Ireland team.

The former Bolton Wanderers boss was sacked by Newcastle United at the beginning of the month and has been taking a break with his family.

But the Daily Mail reports Big Sam is the man the FAI wants to lead the Irish team as they bid to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The Irish have been looking for a new manager since sacking Steve Staunton at the end of last year.
