PAPISS Demba Cisse has labelled his wonder strike against Chelsea as the best of his career.

The striker netted both Newcastle United’s goals in last night’s 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge, the victory keeping the club’s Champions League dream alive.

Cisse gave Alan Pardew’s side a 19th-minute lead with a superb finish, the 26-year-old flicking up a pass from Davide Santon before lashing the ball past Petr Cech.

However, the Senegal international – who has been a revelation since his January move from Freiburg – saved the best for last.

Newcastle were pressed back late in the game, and with 10 minutes of added time to play because of a head injury suffered by Cheik Tiote, Chelsea’s fans were hopeful of an equaliser.

They hadn’t reckoned with goal ace Cisse, who struck in the fourth minute of injury time.

Ryan Taylor’s throw up the left channel was chested back towards Cisse by Shola Ameobi, and he lashed a swerving shot with the outside of his right boot which flew beyond Cech and into the top right-hand corner of the net.

“It was a wonderful goal,” Cisse told the Gazette. “It was the best goal of my career – I was so happy to score it.

“When the ball came to me, I was only thinking about scoring. It was an instinctive finish.

“I was also pleased with my first goal. It was important for the team. It was a good evening for me and the team.”

Next up for Newcastle are Manchester City at St James’s Park on Sunday, the penultimate game of a season which will be judged an unequivocal success whatever happens in the next two games.

“We have to take it match by match,” added Cisse. “We have Manchester City and Everton.

“It’s not going to be easy, but we have confidence, which is important. We believe in each other.

“We hope to play in the Champions League, and we will work hard to achieve that.”

Cisse’s tally for United now stands at 13 goals from 12 games.

“I came to the Premier League to show my quality, and everything is going well,” he said.

“I’m enjoying my football – everything is good on and off the pitch.”
