Newcastle boss Pardew pledges strong side v Metalist

ALAN PARDEW ... plans to field a strong side against Metalist Kharkiv.

ALAN PARDEW ... plans to field a strong side against Metalist Kharkiv.

ALAN Pardew won’t take any chances against Metalist Kharkiv – and will sent out his strongest Newcastle United team.

The club faces Metalist in the first leg of its Europa League Round of 32 at St James’s Park tie tomorrow night.

Pardew has fielded significantly weakened teams in Europe so far this season.

However, with the competition now into the knockout stages – and Newcastle’s squad looking a lot stronger after last month’s transfer activity – Pardew will field a similar side to that which he’s named in the last three Premier League teams in the home leg.

“The side will be as strong as it can be,” Pardew told the Gazette.

“Behind the scenes, I’ve picked the team. It’ll be a very strong side tomorrow night.”

Pardew is wary of Newcastle’s Ukrainian opposition.

Pardew went on: “We’re up against a new name in Europe. We’re an old name, a legendary name in some ways. We want to renew our reputation.”
