Newcastle United are closing in on former Sunderland loanee DeAndre Yedlin.
The Tottenham Hotspur defender spent last season on loan at the Stadium of Light.
And the Gazette understands that Newcastle have made a move for the USA international.
United signed right-back Jesus Gamez from Atletico Madrid this summer, but the 31-year-old is yet to play a competitive match for the club.
Sunderland also considered another move for Seattle-born Yedlin, who would cost upwards of £4million.
Yedlin is understood to favour a permanent move this summer, and not another loan.
The 23-year-old has also been linked with Aston Villa.
Meanwhile, Daryl Janmaat, Newcastle's first-choice right-back, wasn't involved in the weekend's 1-0 win over Bristol City.
However, United manager Rafa Benitez insisted yesterday only a "fantastic" offer would persuade the club to sell the Holland international.
Janmaat could return to the starting XI against Cheltenham Town in the EFL Cup tonight.
