NEWCASTLE United will take on crack European outfits FC Porto and Olympiacos in a pre-season tournament in Portugal, it was announced today.

The club today confirmed its participation in the three-team Guadiana Torneo on the Algarve next month.

Newcastle will play Olympiacos on July 27 (8.45pm kick off), and FC Porto 24 hours later.

Both games will be played at the Algarve Stadium, near Faro.

FC Porto and Olympiacos face each other on July 26 (8.45pm).

Olympiacos is the most successful club in Greek football history, having won 39 League titles, 25 Greek Cups and four Super Cups.

United have met them before, in the Uefa Cup in 2004-05, when they beat them 7-1 over two legs.

FC Porto are the most successful club in Portugal, and have won the Primeira Liga title eight times in the last 10 seasons.

They, too, have met United in Europe, losing 1-0 over two legs back in 1969-70, when the Magpies were defending the Inter Cities Fairs Cup they had won the previous season.
